IN – Infantry; soldiers who are specifically trained for the role of fighting on foot to engage the enemy face to face and have historically borne the brunt of the casualties of combat in wars.
CAV - Cavalry; The role of the U.S. Cavalry is reconnaissance, security and mounted assault. Cavalry has served as a part of the Army forces in every war in which the United States has participated.
FA – Field Artillery; The officially stated mission of the Field Artillery is to destroy, neutralize, or suppress the enemy by cannon, rocket, and missile fire and to help integrate all fire support assets into combined arms operations.
10th MD – The 10th Mountain Division is a light infantry division of the United States Army based at Fort Drum, New York. It is a subordinate unit of the XVIII Airborne Corps and the only division-sized element of the US Army to specialize in fighting under harsh terrain and weather conditions.
BCT – Brigade Combat Team; consists of two infantry battalions and one each cavalry, field artillery, special troops, and support battalions.
FRG – Family Readiness Group; command-sponsored organization of family members, volunteers, soldiers and civilian employees associated with a particular unit.
