Operation Pocket Field Pillow (PFP)

Well, here we are, yours truly and my husband, Bruce. He and the kids (Nick, Dan, Leah, & Michael) are all so supportive of our family owned company, and everyone plays an important part.

I have 2 passions; my family and embroidery.  My family always comes first; without them, there is no joy in anything else.

With their love and encouragement, months and months of hard work, hundreds of broken needles, dozens of calls for repairs to our equipment, scads of money spent on training, supplies and inventory, lots of burned dinners (and take out!) – Just For Baby Gifts was born.

January 2009…my oldest son, Nick, is deploying to Afghanistan. We fly home from FT Drum after saying goodbye to my Infantry soldier and several thousand of his closest friends. I sobbed my heart out on the plane. Kept sobbing. I cried for 4 days. On the 5th day (figuring I couldn’t very well spend the next 364 days in tears and had to do something) I made Nick a small pillow from an old sweatshirt in the back of Bruce’s closet (how was I supposed to know he’d worn that old thing during 2 Cowboys Superbowls???). It was small enough to stuff in his pocket, and take with him on the missions far away from his outposts. Something to remind him of Mom…and of home.

Then I made 3 more for his “truck buddies”. Then a few dozen for his platoon. Then about a hundred more for his company.

Operation Pocket Field Pillow had begun.

Operation PFP is made possible in part by my small business, Just For Baby Gifts, donations of ACU by the Carlisle Finishing Plant, fleece donated by Polartec, supplies donated by Brother International, and by the untold hours of work by hundreds of proud and grateful American volunteers.

...til they all come home
